  • They create stories and characters- symbols, editing and camera are important in telling a story as concisely as possible- narrative economy is key
  • Follow conventions of sub-genre

(1) 'Heaven' and 'Burn The Witch' are very different one another.
Do either of them challenge or subvert the norms of music videos? If so, how and why?
Heaven can be considered similar to the norms of music videos because of its social issue dissertation and the performance style of the video, however she uses religious connotations which many people don't show anymore.
BTW challenges the norm of music videos with the clay characters and the intertextuality of Trumpton and Wickerman which is very unconventional.

(2) What impact has the artist's career had upon the construction of the music video? Why did Sande create this particular video at this point in her career and why did Radiohead create this specific video at this point in their career?
Heaven was Sandes first single, so she had to make a good impression and represent what shes like as a person in her video, but Radiohead already had a popular brand image and it would be more significant to highlight immigration etc in the video as more people would watch it.
(3) Are the representations presented in the music videos still relevant and recognisable to a 2020 audience? If so, why? If not, why?
I think in both videos yes, because there are still so many social issues surrounding us like immigration, UKIP, Trump and also bad influences around us that we need to change and get out of.
(4) if you had to watch one of the videos on repeat for 24 hours, which one would it be and why?
I would probably watch Heaven as it portrays a lot of connotations of religion, nature etc and the beautiful scenery attracts me to the video immediately as well.
