Jungle book- 1967 VS 2016 Production


  1. What are the differences in the timeline of production for Jungle Book 1967 and Jungle Book 2016?
2016: created on computers (CGI); focused more on Mowgli's background
Animation version appears dated, in large part because it appears to use the Xeroxing Method, but that doesn't detract from the great story Disney had created.
1967: was 78 mins long- production costs and cinema running availability- not everyone has a TV (DVD)

   2. What technologies were used on the 1967 production?
They used a multiplane camera which created an illusion of depth which helped make animated films look more interesting and realistic.They won an engineering academy award. It had a sense of 3D depth in a cartoon setting.
 
  3. What technologies were used on the 2016 production?
They merged animal voice and human voice to make it sound real. They had virtual cameras and photograohed the creatures against a real background.
Animals and backgrounds were craeted on computers.
Used motion capture- digitally record the movement of people.
Used CGI= films 'soup' of visual effect- important for making a primarily virtual movie work

 4. How was the Jungle Book 1967 received by audience and critics?
It resonated with audiences due to the comedic overtones and delightful animation.
New York Times said it was "simple, uncluttered, straightforward fun" that children and families would enjoy.
However, LIFE magazine seemed unimpressed by lack of respect paid towards Rudyard's orginal series.

 5. How was Jungle Book 2016 recieved by audences and critics?
Guardian rated it 4/5 stars- never seen digital rendering of talking animals look so persusive.
Faced criticism for not having original ideas and craeting it for money.
Others praise it for making it darker and acting nostalgic to the original.
They included 2 of the most famous songs- Bare necessaties and i wanna be like you which people liked.
Attracted new audiences by having a darker theme and more background to the life of Mowgli.
