The Killing
- Knowledge of DR
- Economic context
- Danish audience only
- Terminology- synergy, ZDF
However, it could be argued that other factors such as the Ownership has affected the choice of genre. Netflix was able to include lots of multi genres into Stranger Things because of their 183 million subscribers paying at least £5.99 a month. This high budget would've helped Netflix build a platform of sub genres to help gain more audiences. This also gives creativity and diversity to Netflix, to be able to use the Duffer Brothers in order to use a cast of young and less known actors.
Conversely, DR had to appeal to a more niche market, the Danish audience who pay the license fee in Denmark. In contrast to Netflix, DR have a much smaller budget to work from, therefore when they synergised with ZDF, a German PSB, they could have a bit of a bigger budget to produce the Killing. The quality and content of the shows were the most appealing to DR , as they only had to attract to a smaller audience. The Killing is an example of a company whose budget could only afford one series per year.
